History

According to the Department of veteran’s affairs, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 an armistice between Germany and the Allied nations came into effect. Initially, it was celebrated as Armistice Day and the first time it was on 11th november 1919 by President Woodrow Wilson specially to honor first world war veterans. It was made a legal holiday in 1926 by President Calvin Coolidge. In 1954, after the second world war, congress approved to change the name from Armistice Day to Veteran’s Day on 1st June.
